Huskies Take Down William & Mary To Win Weekend Series

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- In the second game of their weekend series, the Northeastern Huskies (40-9, 21-2 CAA) took the series against the William & Mary Tribe (20-30, 13-10 CAA) by a score of 15-1 on Saturday afternoon at Plumeri Park.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, Northeastern's offense exploded for four runs in the fourth, added single runs in the fifth and eighth innings, and a pair in the sixth before putting the game away with a seven-run ninth. The offensive outburst supported another quality start from junior Aiven Cabral, who collected his ninth win of the season. Leading the offense was the left side of the infield, with Jack Goodman and Chris Walsh each tallying three hits on the day.
  • William & Mary jumped out to an early lead in the first inning with a leadoff triple and sacrifice fly.
  • The Huskies answered with a four-run fourth inning that began with a walk to Harrison Feinberg, who stole second and scored on Jack Goodman's RBI double to tie the game 1-1.
  • After a stolen base moved Goodman to third, Matt Brinker brought him home with a single to left-center to give Northeastern the 2-1 lead.
  • The frame concluded when Gregory Bozzo singled and Chris Walsh doubled to left-center, driving in both Brinker and Bozzo for the 4-1 advantage.
  • Northeastern added another run in the fifth when Cam Maldonado scored on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to Matt Brinker to make it 5-1.
  • In the sixth, the Huskies extended their lead to 7-1 on Chris Walsh's sacrifice fly that scored Bozzo, who had reached on an error and advanced to third on a steal and a throwing error, followed by Goodman's RBI single that brought home Maldonado.
  • Ryan Gerety added a run in the eighth with some aggressive baserunning, singling and stealing both second and third before scoring on Feinberg's sacrifice fly to center field for the 8-1 lead.
  • The Huskies put an exclamation point on the victory with a seven-run ninth inning that featured 11 batters coming to the plate and was highlighted by Alex Lane's two-run single and RBI hits from Henry DiGiorgio and Carmelo Musacchia.
  • Aiven Cabral (9-2) earned the win with six solid innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out six and walking only one Tribe batter.
  • Jack Bowery and Joseph Hauser combined to throw three perfect innings of relief, with Bowery striking out two in his two innings of work.
  • Chris Walsh led the Huskies with a 3-for-4 performance, including a double and three RBIs, while Jack Goodman also had three hits and two RBIs.
  • Northeastern's speed was on display with eight stolen bases, including two each by Feinberg and Gerety.
  • The win marked Northeastern's 40th of the season, which is only the second time in program history they've reached that milestone (44 wins in 2023).
  • The victory improved the Huskies to a program-record 21-2 in CAA play, eclipsing their previous best marks of 20-3 in 2021 and 20-10 in 2023.
  • Northeastern has now won all eight of its CAA series this season and has won eight consecutive Saturday games in conference play, earning series wins on Saturday in the last seven weekends.
The series concludes Sunday, May 11th at 1 p.m. with game three at Plumeri Park.
