BROOKLINE, Mass. – The No. 25 Northeastern Huskies (44-9, 24-2 CAA) extended their nation-leading winning streak to 23 games, defeating the North Carolina A&T Aggies (15-35, 9-15 CAA) by a score of 8-6 on Friday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
Despite being outhit 11-6, the Huskies used timely hitting and a six-run sixth inning to take control of the game, securing their 24th CAA win of the season. Junior
Aiven Cabral earned his 10th win of the year, while
Brett Dunham locked down his third save with a pair of strikeouts in the ninth.
- Northeastern struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Cam Maldonado belted a solo home run to left field for the early 1-0 lead.
- North Carolina A&T tied the game in the fourth inning notching their first two hits of the game, a double down the line and an RBI single up the middle.
- The very next offensive inning for NU, Carmelo Musacchia responded with a solo shot to left field for a 2-1 lead.
- The Aggies tied the game again in the fifth inning when an RBI single snuck past the first base bag with a runner on second, knotting the game at 2-2.
- Northeastern retook the lead and pulled away with a decisive six-run rally in the sixth inning, which began with consecutive walks to Harrison Feinberg and Jack Goodman.
- Matt Brinker delivered an RBI single through the left side, scoring Feinberg to break the tie, and after Alex Lane walked to load the bases, Gregory Bozzo singled through the left side to bring home two more runs for a 5-2 Husky advantage.
- After a walk to Ryan Gerety to re-load the bases, Maldonado capped the big inning with a three-run double to left field, scoring Lane, Bozzo, and Gerety to give Northeastern a commanding 8-2 lead.
- The Aggies answered back with a four hit inning in the top of the seventh that plated three runs, cutting the deficit down to three. A sacrifice fly in the eighth would bring the Husky lead down to just two, before the bullpen settled the game down in the final two frames.
- Brett Dunham closed the door in the ninth, striking out two Aggie batters in a perfect inning to secure the victory and earn his third save of the season.
- Aiven Cabral (10-2) earned the win with a solid six-inning outing, allowing just two runs on six hits, with no walks and four strikeouts.
- Northeastern extends its program-record active winning streak to 23 games, which is the longest winning streak in the Division I since the 2022 season (Tennessee).
