THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- LAST TIME OUT – The Huskies kicked off postseason competition at Eastern Sprints on Sunday, May 18. The finals session opened with fireworks for Northeastern as the Coxed Four took to the water for their Grand Final. Facing off against Harvard and two Holy Cross entries, the Huskies jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. With a commanding wire-to-wire performance, Northeastern captured gold and stood atop the podium in the opening event of the afternoon. The Varsity Eight wrapped up the day in the Petite Final against Wisconsin, BU, Syracuse, Cornell, and Georgetown. With renewed focus, the Huskies delivered one of their best races of the season. After staying close in the opening 600 meters, Northeastern found their rhythm and surged into the lead at the halfway mark. With a strong second thousand and powerful sprint, the Huskies extended their advantage to take the win in the Petite Final, finishing 7th overall in the regatta.
- IRA'S REWIND – The Huskies capped off a successful weekend at the 2024 championships going up against a strong field across all races. The Huskies closed the weekend with the first varsity finishing third in the petite finals (ninth overall in the nation), and the second and third varsity boats also raced in their respective petite finals.
- SEASON RECAP – This spring season, the Huskies opened with a competitive showing against a strong No. 8 Penn team finishing second with a time of 6:34.94 being narrowly edged by Penn's varsity four A boat with a time of 6:31.61. The Huskies bested the Quakers varsity four B and C boats. Northeastern set a record in the Arlett Cup this season with the First Varsity boat shaving 6.2 seconds off of the previous record time, which had been set in 2005. In the final half of the spring, the Huskies took on No. 3 Harvard in the annual Smith Cup. Northeastern had gained a seat in the first 250 meters, but as both crews shifted into base rhythm, Harvard began to press out. The Huskies launched a strong push with 700 meters to go, closing the gap in the final stretch, finishing 5 seats down on Harvard. Despite a fierce sprint, Northeastern crossed the line 2.3 seconds behind Harvard.
