BROOKLINE, Mass. -- The Northeastern Huskies (39-9) capped off the home midweek schedule with a win over the UMass Lowell River Hawks (17-30) by a score of 9-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
The Huskies' offense was powered by four home runs, including back-to-back blasts from
Chris Walsh and
Ryan Gerety in the sixth inning. Starter
Max Gitlin earned his seventh win of the season, while the Northeastern lineup tallied 14 hits in the victory.
- Northeastern jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, with Cam Maldonado doubling to right center and scoring on an RBI single from Harrison Feinberg. Feinberg later stole home as part of a double steal with Carmelo Musacchia to give the Huskies a 2-0 advantage.
- After UMass Lowell got on the board with a sacrifice fly in the third, the Huskies answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning when Maldonado scored from third on a double play to extend the lead to 3-1.
- The Huskies added another run in the fourth when Ryan Gerety singled through the right side, bringing home Gregory Bozzo who had reached on a walk to make it 4-2.
- After a Lowell solo home run cut the Husky lead to 4-2 in the fifth, Matt Brinker responded with a two-run blast to left field in the bottom of the inning, scoring Maldonado who had walked to push the advantage to 6-2.
- Northeastern continued its power surge in the sixth inning with back-to-back home runs. Chris Walsh connected for a solo shot to left field, his first career long ball, followed immediately by Ryan Gerety's homer to right center, extending the lead to 8-2.
- Harrison Feinberg capped off the Huskies' scoring with a solo home run to left field in the seventh, his team-leading 14th of the season, to make it 9-2.
- Max Gitlin earned his seventh win of the season (7-1), throwing 5.1 solid innings while allowing just two runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
- The Husky bullpen was dominant once again, with Jack Beauchesne, Cooper McGrath, and Brett Dunham combining to allow just one run over the final 3.2 innings to secure the victory.
- The Huskies' trio at the top of the lineup – Gerety, Maldonado, and Feinberg – combined to go 8-for-12 with four runs scored and four RBIs. Feinberg finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two stolen bases.
- Northeastern has now won seventeen consecutive games, extending the team's longest winning streak since 2021. It's the sixth straight Husky win against the River Hawks dating back to 2021.
The Huskies head on the road this weekend for a three-game CAA series against William & Mary at Plumeri Park. That series begins Friday, May 9th at 6:15 p.m. and will be streamed on FloCollege.
