STORRS, Conn. – Northeastern (4-5) fell to UConn (8-1) in three sets on Sunday afternoon.
UConn def. Northeastern: 25-21, 25-22, 25-21
- Set One: Both teams kept the tone even throughout the majority of the opening set. UConn took the first notable lead at 20-17 off of a service ace. Northeastern would look to respond with a kill from Svenja Rodenbüsch bu would fall by a 25-21 final.
- Set Two: The second set began with a quick 4-1 lead from the Huskies, peaking from a pair of kills from Valentina Meirelles. The home Huskies pushed themselves back ito a 13-11 lead halfway through the set off of strong blocking efforts from their middle. A kill from junior Kaylin Daniels would keep the score close, but UConn would advance to a 2-0 lead on a 25-22 win.
- Set Three: The final set of the afternoon stayed close through the 20th point for both teams. Northeastern registered big kills from Daniels and Meirelles as they looked to extend past three sets. A pair of blocks from UConn finalized their home victory at 25-21.
- Graduate student Svejna Rodenbüsch and senior Nadia Koanui were named to the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the weekend.
- Rodenbüsch led the offensive attack with nine kills on a .389 percentage while tallying five digs.
- Koanui tallied a team-high 11digs on the afternoon.
- Sofia King led the passing efforts with 21 assists, five digs and one service ace.
The Huskies open (Coastal Athletic Association) conference play at Stony Brook next Friday and Saturday, with the opening match at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 19, on FloCollege.
