BOSTON, Mass. – Northeastern (5-7, 1-2 CAA) battled against top-seeded Towson (12-2, 3-0 CAA) on Friday afternoon, falling in four tight sets. Brynn Smith paced the Huskies with 16 kills.
Towson def. Northeastern: 27-25, 30-28, 25-22, 25-23
- Set One: Northeastern opened their home play with a 9-2 run over the visiting Towson squad, paced by a pair of kills from Brynn Smith. The visiting Tigers battled back to 22 all tie before taking the set past 25 for a 27-25 victory.
- Set Two: The second set of the afternoon proved to be a special one. The Huskies fell to a 20-7 hole behind the rolling arms of the Towson squad. Northeastern would then go on a 14-2 run stumping the Tigers, as the extra effort plays stacked on top of each other for the Huskies. Beatrice Gennari led the way to victory in the set with momentum shifting blocks and kills. The Huskies completed the comeback with a 30-28 victory.
- Set Three: Towson opened the third set of the day on a 4-1 run capitalizing on the Huskies service error. Back-to-back kills from Emma Rowell and Brynn Smith would even the score at 11s midway through the set. Towson found breathing room latter half of the set taking a 24-19 lead. A late kill from Svenja Rodenbüsch would be the last score for the Huskies as they fell 25-22.
- Set Four: Northeastern and Towson battled in the fourth set staying even until the Huskies took a 15-13 lead, off of another kill from Brynn Smith, going into the media time out. The teams kept the score neck and neck throughout the majority of the set. Towson scored the final three-point of the set on a pair of blocks from their middle hitters to finalize their 3-1 victory.
- Brynn Smith paced the Huskies with 16 kills and 17 digs on the afternoon.
- Nadia Koanui held down the court defensively, registering 25 digs and one service ace.
- Sofia King led the passing efforts with 34 assists and tallied 2 kills of her own.
- Beatrice Gennari tallied 5 blocks to go with 12 kills to fill her stat line.
Northeastern will host Towson for the second match this weekend tomorrow, Saturday, September 27, with a 1 pm start time.
