NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Northeastern volleyball team (4-2) picked up its fourth victory of the season, taking down the New Haven Chargers (1-3) by a 3-2 final.
Northeastern def. New Haven: 25-17, 25-18, 23-25, 23-25, 15-9
- Set One: The opening set kicked off with a 4-1 Northeastern lead after a block and kill from Beatrice Gennari. The Huskies pushed the lead to nine on a kill from Valentina Meirelles and never looked back to take a 25-17 victory.
- Set Two: The Huskies continued to push forward into the second set, taking another early lead, 5-1, with a strong swing from Elle Lucas. New Haven rallied to within six halfway through the set, 12-18, but the Northeastern defense stepped up. After a block from the duo of Meirelles and Kaylin Daniels, first-year Emma Rowell hammered back-to-back kills to secure the 25-18 win.
- Set Three: New Haven responded in the third set, opening on a 5-0 run. The Huskies would battle back into the set, slowly, earning a lead on the impressive swings out of the middle from Daniels. The teams would go on to exchange points in the latter half of the set, with New Haven taking a late 21-19 lead. The Chargers took advantage of a couple of net violations and pursued a 25-23 win to force a fourth set.
- Set Four: New Haven took the first lead of the fourth set off of a key service ace. Northeastern would battle back into the set with back-to-back kills from Valentina Meirelles. The Chargers would finish the set with a strong swing and force the match to go the distance.
- Set Five: The last set of the day opened in New Haven's favor as they took an early 6-3 advantage. After a timeout from the Huskies, the team came alive. Back-to-back kills from Beatrice Gennari and Emma Rowell would push the team to a 15-9 win.
- Valentina Meirelles led the attack with 16 kills, three digs and five block assists.
- Sofia King tallied 27 assists and a pair of aces.
- Nadia Koanui grabbed 21 digs while Svenja Rodenbüsch tallied 14.
The Huskies will travel down to Connecticut for a trio of games next weekend taking on Fairfield, Yale and UConn.
