Justice Tramble each chipped in with 10 points, but the Northeastern women's basketball team (6-12, 2-6 CAA) fell to Monmouth (13-5, 6-1 CAA) 65-56 at OceanFirst Bank Center on Wednesday morning.
In addition to the output of Collins, Beaudion-Foliaki, and Tramble, the Huskies were helped by junior
Yirsy Quéliz, who added nine points, four rebounds, and two assists. Beaudion-Foliaki's 10 points came on a perfect 6-for-6 performance from the free throw line, setting new career-highs in both free throws made and attempted.
Northeastern struggled out of the gate, falling behind 18-11 at the end of the first quarter. The Huskies went 0-for-7 from three-point range in the opening period and shot just 23.1% from the field. Northeastern continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 36-20 halftime deficit.
Monmouth continued to increase its lead after halftime, building an 18-point advantage before Northeastern went on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a jumper from Beaudion-Foliaki, to trim its deficit to 47-38 with 1:04 to go in the third. Monmouth countered and stretched its lead to 49-38 heading into the fourth. Northeastern shot 42.9% in the quarter and went a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line to score 18 of its 36 second-half points.
Northeastern continued to chip away in the fourth, cutting the deficit to eight points on multiple occasions. A Quéliz three-pointer made it 57-49 with 6:09 remaining, but the Huskies could not pull any closer, falling by a final of 65-56. Northeastern shot 92.3% from the free throw line in the second half and outscored Monmouth 36-29 after the break.
Sophomore center
Alyssa Staten provided a spark off the bench with a team-high six rebounds, while
Justice Tramble added six points and a block. GiGi Gamble led Monmouth with a game-high 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
Northeastern returns home to host Drexel on Saturday, February 1 at 1 p.m. in the Cabot Center for its National Girls and Women in Sports Day game.
