BOSTON— The No. 6 Northeastern women's hockey team is set for a two-game series against the No. 13/14 Holy Cross Crusaders beginning on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. at Walter Brown Arena. Game two is set for a 6 p.m. puck drop at Holy Cross' Hart Center Rink.
Both games will stream live on ESPN+ and are free entry.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- A SWEDE SENSATION: The reigning Hockey East goaltender of the week, sophomore Lisa Jönsson, posted a career-high 45 saves in a 1-0 shutout at then-No. 5 UConn. It marked the most saves by a Northeastern goaltender in a shutout since Jan. 5, 2010 when Leah Sulyma posted 52 against Princeton in a 4-0 win. She was named to the National Goalie of the Year Watch List for the second year in a row. This season Jönsson owns a 1.73 GAA and .932 save percentage. Her 1.73 GAA ranks tied as the 12th-best mark in the country. In Hockey East games, Jönsson is a perfect 11-0-0 and has taken her game to another level to lead all netminders with a 1.09 GAA and .957 save percentage.
- MAMMA MIA THAT'S A LOT OF HUSKIES: Northeastern will be well represented at the upcoming Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics, with a program record nine Olympians, the most among all Hockey East schools. Four former players including Kendall Coyne Schofield, Hayley Scamurra, Aerin Frankel and Gwyneth Philips will represent Team USA. Additionally, assistant coach Melissa Piacentini will serve as Team USA's video coach. Chloé Aurard is set to head to her first Olympics, representing France. Denisa Krizova will represent Czechia at her second Olympics. Three Huskies will represent Switzerland, current freshman Alessia Baechler and incoming freshman Ivana Wey will be making their Olympic debut, while alum Alina Mueller is playing in her fourth Olympics. Baechler and Holy Cross' Naemi Herzig are teammates on the Swiss Olympic Team and will be gone for this series.
- PURPLE PEOPLE EATERS: Northeastern and Holy Cross are set to meet for the first time this season with a two-game home-and-home series. Both teams enter game one riding four game winning-streaks. In two games against the Crusaders last year, Jönsson posted a 2-0-0 record with a .939 save percentage, 1.00 GAA and one shutout. For Holy Cross, Abby Hornung played one game with a .915 save percentage and 3.65 GAA, while Brooke Loranger made two starts with a 3.58 GAA and .892 save percentage. Violet Carroll leads all Crusaders with 22 points, tied for the sixth-best mark in Hockey East. Holy Cross' penalty-kill ranks first in the country (.930).
The Huskies will next host Maine on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. at Walter Brown Arena.
