Huskies Fall in Double Overtime Thriller to North Carolina A&T, 84-83

BOSTON -- Taylor Holohan posted a career-high 22 points and Justice Tramble recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, but the Northeastern women's basketball team (4-9, 0-3 CAA) fell just short in a double-overtime thriller, losing to North Carolina A&T (6-8, 1-2 CAA) 84-83 at the Cabot Center on Friday night.

The Huskies had five players score in double figures in the marathon contest. Holohan led the way with her career-best 22 points on an efficient 8-of-10 shooting from the field, adding nine rebounds. Yirsy Quéliz added 19 points, including a clutch three-pointer with four seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. Camryn Collins chipped in 18 points while Tramble's double-double marked her third consecutive game with double-digit rebounds.

Northeastern jumped out to an early 21-10 lead after the first quarter, paced by Holohan's nine points. The Huskies' defense held N.C. A&T to just 36.4 percent shooting from the field in the opening frame and forced nine turnovers.

The Aggies stormed back in the second quarter, outscoring Northeastern 20-10 to nearly tie the game at 31-30 heading into halftime. N.C. A&T continued their momentum in the third quarter, building a 55-49 lead entering the final period behind a 75 percent shooting performance from the field.

Northeastern rallied in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Aggies 23-17 to force overtime. Quéliz's three-pointer in the closing seconds of regulation knotted the score at 72-72, sending the game to its first overtime period since December 22, 2023 against Boston University.

Both teams traded baskets in the first overtime, with Collins' clutch layup with 19 seconds remaining tying the game at 81-81 and forcing a second extra session—Northeastern's first double-overtime contest since February 1, 2015 against William & Mary.

In the second overtime, Paris Locke's driving layup with 10 seconds remaining gave N.C. A&T an 84-83 lead. Holohan's final attempt at the buzzer fell short, giving the Aggies the victory.

D'Mya Tucker led N.C. A&T with 21 points while Jamyia Lindsey added 16 points off the bench. Locke finished with 14 points and six rebounds for the Aggies.

The Huskies shot 41.5 percent from the field (27-of-65) and connected on 8-of-21 from three-point range (38.1 percent). Northeastern dominated the paint, outscoring N.C. A&T 36-34 in that area, and converted 18 Aggie turnovers into 19 points. The Huskies also pulled down 15 offensive rebounds, leading to 17 second-chance points.

The Huskies will look to snap their three-game losing streak when they host Monmouth on Sunday, January 11 at 1 p.m. at the Cabot Center.
