BOSTON — The Northeastern volleyball team is set to host Stony Brook for a two-match weekend series on Saturday, Oct. 24 and Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Cabot Center. Both matches will start at 2 p.m., with Saturday's match streaming live on FloCollege and Sunday's match streaming live on NESN and FloCollege.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- SCOUTING THE SEAWOLVES: Stony Brook sports a 9-9 overall record and is 3-5 in CAA play so far this season, good for eighth in the conference. The Seawolves were swept by conference leader Charleston in their last series and split a two-match series with Elon the weekend before. Despite offensive struggles — the Seawolves rank 10th in the conference in points per set (15.58) — sophomore middle blocker Damisi Osibodu leads the CAA in blocks per set and ranks ninth in the NCAA with a 1.52 mark entering the weekend.
- ON THE LEADERBOARD: The current CAA statistical leaderboard is littered with Huskies entering the weekend. Senior Beatrice Gennari boasts the second-highest hitting percentage in the conference (.410) and is seventh in total blocks (72). Sophomore Emma Rowell ranks seventh in the CAA in kills per set with 3.07 and junior Arina Sosinovica is sixth in the conference in assists with 427.
- LAST TIME OUT: Despite dropping both matches at Hofstra last weekend, the Huskies battled in Saturday's finale but came up just short in the fifth set, falling 3-2 (22-25, 26-24, 20-25, 25-18, 15-13). Redshirt sophomore Valentina Meirelles paced the attack with 16 kills on a .250 clip, good for 19.5 points. Freshman Cayenne Ceman was right behind her with 17 kills and 17.5 points, while also setting the tone defensively with 44 digs on the reception end. Rowell added 11 kills, and Gennari was efficient all night, hitting .400 on 6 kills.
Following this weekend's action, the Huskies will travel to Hampton for a weekend series starting Friday, Oct. 30.
