Field Hockey Hosts Monmouth In Regular Season Finale

BOSTON -- Northeastern field hockey closes out the regular season on Friday, Oct. 30, hosting Monmouth at Dedham Field at 3 p.m. in a pivotal CAA matchup with postseason seeding on the line. The game can be seen on FloCollege and on NESN+.

The Huskies enter the finale at 6-9 overall and 3-2 in conference play, while the Hawks sit at 9-7 overall and 4-1 in the CAA. Friday's result will help determine the final seeding for the CAA Tournament, which begins Nov. 4 in Philadelphia.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

1. SCOUTING THE HAWKS: Monmouth enters Friday's regular-season finale looking to get back on track after three consecutive losses, including a 3-1 setback to No. 5 Harvard on Sunday. The Hawks had been ranked nationally throughout much of the season and reached as high as No. 20 in the NFHCA rankings. Despite the recent skid, Monmouth remains near the top of the CAA standings at 4-1, with a chance to finish in a tie for first place. The Hawks opened conference play with wins over Hofstra, Towson, William & Mary and Northeastern's other CAA opponents, but have faced a challenging stretch against nationally ranked competition. Friday's matchup presents a final opportunity for Monmouth to secure its postseason position before heading to Philadelphia.

2. LAST TIME OUT: Northeastern nearly completed a dramatic comeback at Drexel last Friday, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game in the second half before the Dragons scored on a penalty corner as time expired for a 3-2 win. After Drexel scored twice in the opening quarter, Alex Mega put the Huskies on the board in the third, finishing a counterattack to cut the deficit to one. Camille Armaganian then converted a penalty stroke to even the score at 2-2. Aiko Price kept Northeastern in contention throughout the afternoon, recording a career-high 10 saves. With the teams tied in the closing seconds, Drexel earned a penalty corner and scored as time expired to take the victory. Despite the result, the Huskies showed resilience against one of the CAA's top teams, outscoring the Dragons 2-1 over the final three quarters before the last-second goal.

3. HEADED BACK TO PHILLY – Northeastern field hockey is heading to its sixth straight CAA Tournament, and Friday's result will have major implications for the tournament's seeding, with the conference championship set for Nov. 4 and 6 at Drexel's Buckley Field in Philadelphia. A win would move the Huskies to 4-2 in conference play and guarantee Northeastern the No. 3 seed. The Hawks have even more at stake: at 4-1 in CAA play, Monmouth can still finish in a tie for first place, depending on Friday's results and the conference's tiebreaker scenarios. With postseason positioning on the line for both teams, the regular-season finale will be a crucial matchup at Dedham Field.
