Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Drexel Pulls Away From Northeastern, 70-61

BOSTON – A 57% shooting performance, including 60% in the second half, sent Drexel (14-14, 8-7) past the Northeastern men's basketball team (6-19, 2-12) on Thursday night at the Cabot Center, 70-61.

Xavier Abreu had a team-high 19 points for Northeastern, including 17 in the second half as one of three Huskies in double figures. He was joined by William Kermoury (14 points), who returned to the lineup after missing the previous two games with an injury, while JB Frankel added 11 off the bench on 4-of-8 shooting.

Northeastern, which was within one point on four occasions in the second half, finished 22-of-56 on the night and 6-of-20 from distance. Drexel, meanwhile, was 24-of-42 overall and 7-of-18 from three, led by 19 points from Victor Panov.

Scoring was at a premium in the first half, with Drexel leading by as many as nine before going into halftime with a 29-24 lead. The Dragons shot 55% as a team, led by eight points from Panov, but 10 first half turnovers allowed the Huskies to hang around and cut into the lead down the stretch.

After Drexel started out with a 5-0 lead, Northeastern went on a 10-3 run including six points from Petar Pinter to take a 10-8 lead seven minutes into the contest. A 14-1 Drexel run midway through the half put the visitors back in control, though, before triples from Luca Soroa Schaller and Kermoury helped close the gap for an NU squad that was 8-of-26 from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.

The teams went back and forth in the second half, with Northeastern using an 8-0 run over less than two minutes early to make it a one-point game, 33-32. After a 7-1 Drexel spurt put the Dragons up by eight, the Huskies responded with a 9-2 run to make it a one-point game yet again with 9:48 to play, 45-44, capping a 9-of-10 string from the floor.

After a JB Frankel three made it 49-48 with seven minutes left, the Huskies would go 4-of-13 down the stretch while Drexel went 4-of-6 from the floor while making the most of their 24 trips to the line in the second half to ice it.

The Huskies will be back in action on Saturday when Northeastern hosts Hofstra at 2 p.m. on NESN+ and FloCollege. Prior to the game, the Huskies will honor the members of the 2026 Senior Class in a pregame ceremony.
