Huskies Fall To Gophers In Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Northeastern Huskies (0-4) dropped game one of their weekend series against Minnesota, falling 12-2 on Saturday evening at Hammond Stadium. The Golden Gophers (4-1) built a 5-2 lead through four innings and never looked back, handing the Huskies their fourth straight loss to open the 2026 season.

Northeastern's lone bright spot came in the fourth, when a two-run rally sparked by Harrison Feinberg briefly cut into the deficit at 4-2 before Minnesota answered back to lead 5-2 after four.

  • The Huskies showed some early life in the first inning, as Harrison Feinberg singled and promptly stole second base, and Ryan Gerety drew a walk to put two aboard — but the inning ended without a run.
  • Minnesota plated three in the second and added another in the third to take a 4-0 lead before the Huskies had recorded an out against Gopher starter Selvig.
  • Northeastern put together its best inning of the night in the fourth. Feinberg opened the frame with a double to right field, and Gerety followed with an RBI single to right to bring him home. Anthony Ruggiero then moved Matt Brinker to second and Gerety to third on a fly out. Will Fosberg drove in the second run of the frame with a ground out to first, scoring Gerety to make it 4-2.
  • Minnesota answered in the bottom of the fourth and continued to extend the lead through the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, putting the game out of reach.
  • Andrew Wertz started on the mound for the Huskies, working four innings and allowing five earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Matthew Sapienza and Joseph Hauser combined to work the final 2.1 innings in relief.
  • Feinberg led Northeastern at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base. Gerety added a hit, a walk, and an RBI.
  • The Huskies were held to just four hits on the night and went 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position.

The series concludes Sunday, February 22nd at 1:00 p.m. from Lee Health Complex in Fort Myers.
