BOSTON—
Justice Tramble delivered a career performance for the Northeastern women's basketball team (7-20, 3-14 CAA), finishing with a career-high 24 points, but Hampton (10-18, 4-12 CAA) pulled away to defeat the Huskies, 77-71, at the Cabot Center on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Tramble's 24-point effort was complemented by a strong showing from
Camryn Collins, who finished with 12 points and seven rebounds, and Yirsy Quéliz, who contributed 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting and added five rebounds.
Nariyah Simmons chipped in 11 points on a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line off the bench.
Â
Northeastern seized control early. The Huskies built a seven-point first-quarter lead — their largest of the half — and carried an 18-14 advantage into the second quarter. The second period proved competitive, with the Huskies extending the margin to as many as seven on a Quéliz three-pointer off a Kiarra McElrath turnover at the 8:02 mark, but Hampton battled back. A buzzer-beating three from Quéliz capped a strong second quarter for Northeastern, and the Huskies led 37-31 at halftime.
Â
The third quarter was where Hampton made its decisive push. The Pirates outscored Northeastern 23-19 in the period, and trailed by two headed into the fourth.
Â
Hampton took control for good in the final frame, with McElrath hitting a three-pointer from a Northeastern turnover at the 8:02 mark to tie the game at 60, and Taylor Gibson's layup moments later gave Hampton its first lead of the game with 7:25 remaining. The Huskies could not reclaim the advantage despite a late push
