BROOKLINE, Mass. -- Luc Rising tossed six strong innings and Andrew Wertz slammed the door with three scoreless frames in his first relief appearance as the Northeastern Huskies (8-7, 4-1 CAA) defeated the Towson Tigers (6-9, 0-5 CAA) 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Friedman Diamond, clinching the weekend series.
 
After four scoreless innings from both sides, Northeastern broke through in the fifth with a pair of manufactured runs before Carmelo Musacchia's triple and an Eric Cha sacrifice fly added an insurance run in the sixth. Rising and Wertz combined to allow just five hits on the afternoon, with Towson's only run coming on a two-out double in the sixth.
 

• The two teams traded zeroes through four innings in a tense pitchers' duel. Rising stranded a Towson runner at third in the first, and the Huskies left runners on in each of the first three frames against Towson.
• Northeastern broke through in the fifth when Will Fosberg singled through the left side and Chris Walsh laid down a sacrifice bunt to move him into scoring position. Ryan Gerety followed with a single up the middle to put runners on the corners, and Harrison Feinberg reached on a fielder's choice that scored Fosberg for the 1-0 lead.
• A Towson throwing error on the play allowed Gerety to advance to third, and Matt Brinker drove him in with a groundout to first to make it 2-0.
• Towson got one back in the sixth on an RBI double to left center, but Anthony Ruggiero gunned down the trail runner at the plate with a relay throw through Carmelo Musacchia to Fosberg to hold the damage to one.
• The Huskies answered right back in the bottom of the sixth when Musacchia tripled to right center and Cha brought him home with a sacrifice fly to push the lead back to 3-1.
• Rising earned the win to improve to 1-1 on the season, allowing just one run on four hits over six innings. He struck out five and walked one on just 77 pitches, working efficiently with 56 strikes.
• Wertz, who began the year as a starter for the Huskies, made his first relief appearance of the year and delivered three scoreless innings for his first save of 2026. He allowed just one hit — a leadoff single in the ninth — and retired the final three batters to close it out on only 31 pitches, striking out the final batter of the game.
• Feinberg led the offense with a 2-for-4 day, including a pair of hustle doubles and an RBI. Gerety went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, and a stolen base. Fosberg also had two hits from the eight-hole.
• The series win is Northeastern's 12th consecutive CAA series victory, a streak dating back to the 2024 season. The Huskies did not lose a single CAA series in their 2025 championship campaign.

 
The series concludes tomorrow, Sunday, March 15th at Friedman Diamond. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
