BROOKLINE, Mass. -- The Merrimack Warriors (8-8) rallied for two unearned runs in the top of the ninth inning to stun the Northeastern Huskies (9-8) by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Friedman Diamond. It is the Huskies' first loss when leading after eight innings this season, and Northeastern's first home loss since March 21, 2025.
Northeastern's offense managed just four hits in the contest and only three runs despite eight walks by the Warriors' pitching staff. A throwing error in the ninth opened the door for Merrimack's go-ahead two-run double, undoing a solid effort from the Husky bullpen.
- Ryan McCarroll turned in three scoreless innings to start for the Huskies, allowing just one hit while striking out four of the 11 batters he faced.
- Northeastern struck first in the bottom of the second when Charlie Criscola walked, stole second, and scored on a Will Fosberg RBI single up the middle to make it 1-0.
- Harrison Feinberg extended the lead in the third with a solo home run to left field, his second of the season, to put the Huskies up 2-0.
- Merrimack got on the board in the fourth - with two outs and runners on the corners after a wild pitch and a passed ball, the Warriors cut it to 2-1.
- The Warriors tied it in the fifth at 2-2, manufacturing a run with a walk, a pair of stolen bases, and a bloop RBI single to shallow right.
- The Huskies retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth after Musacchia singled and stole his way to third base. With the bases loaded and two outs, Ryan Gerety drew a walk to force in Musacchia and restore the 3-2 advantage.
- Nick Coniglio kept Merrimack off the board in the seventh and eighth innings, striking out three in two scoreless frames.
- The game turned in the ninth against Andrew Wertz, who retired the first two batters before a single and the throwing error, which would've been the final out, put runners at first and second. A full-count double to right center plated both runners to give Merrimack the 4-3 lead.
- Huskies got the game-winning run to the plate by way of Feinberg in the bottom of the ninth, but a double play snuffed the rally.
- The Huskies went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and stranded eight runners on base. Northeastern stole six bases on the afternoon, including two from Musacchia, who now has a team-leading 16 on the season.
- The loss ended a 22-game Northeastern home winning streak at Friedman Diamond.
The Huskies have a quick turnaround with their next midweek matchup coming Wednesday, March 18
