PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Northeastern Huskies (10-8) bounced back from Tuesday's loss with a 7-3 victory over the Brown Bears (5-9) on Wednesday afternoon, swiping a season-high 11 bases and drawing nine walks to overwhelm the hosts on the basepaths.
David McSweeney and Cooper Maher combined for seven scoreless innings to anchor the pitching effort, while AJ Aschettino and Harrison Feinberg each reached base four times to spark the offense. It was the Huskies' fourth game this season with 10 or more stolen bases.
- Northeastern jumped out early in the first, as Ryan Gerety walked and stole second before Harrison Feinberg reached on a hit-by-pitch, and both runners moved up on a balk. Gerety scored on a Matt Brinker RBI groundout, and Anthony Ruggiero's fielder's choice brought home Feinberg to make it 2-0.
- McSweeney was sharp in his three innings on the mound, holding Brown hitless while striking out one. He worked around a bases-loaded jam in the third, inducing a fielder's choice to escape unscathed.
- Feinberg singled and stole second in the fifth before coming all the way around to score on a throwing error during his steal of third, extending the lead to 3-1.
- Maher took over in the fourth and delivered four strong innings, allowing just two hits and one unearned run while striking out four. He stranded a pair of runners in the seventh to keep Northeastern firmly in control.
- Feinberg reached again in the seventh on a hit-by-pitch and advanced on a balk before scoring on a double play to push the lead to 4-1.
- The Huskies tacked on two more in the eighth, with Aschettino singling to left and Cooper Tarantino following with a single through the right side to set up a Tyler Harmony sacrifice bunt that scored Aschettino. Carter Bentley then delivered an RBI single through the right side to make it 6-1.
- Brown cut into the lead with a two-run double in the eighth trimming it to 6-3.Â
- Northeastern answered right back in the ninth, manufacturing a run without recording a hit. Carmelo Musacchia walked, stole second and third, and scored on an Aschettino sacrifice fly to restore the four-run cushion at 7-3.
- Andrew Rogovic closed it out in the ninth, striking out two to seal the victory.
- The Huskies swiped 11 bags on the afternoon, led by three from Musacchia and two each from Feinberg, Tarantino, and Harmony. It is the team's fourth game this season with double-digit steals.
- Aschettino reached base in all three of his plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with a hit-by-pitch, a walk, a stolen base, and an RBI. Feinberg finished 1-for-2 with a walk, 2 HBPs, and three runs scored.
- Northeastern drew nine walks and was hit by pitch three times while collecting 10 hits, putting 22Â runners on base in the contest.
The Huskies return home to face CAA foe Elon for a three-game series at Friedman Diamond. The series begins Friday, March 20th at 2 p.m.
