NU Falls To Hofstra In Extras

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- The Hofstra Pride (7-13, 3-4 CAA) walked off the Northeastern Huskies (13-11, 7-3 CAA) in 11 innings on Friday afternoon, 5-4, at University Field. The Huskies held a 3-1 lead through four innings but could not hold on, as Hofstra chipped away and delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th to take game one of the CAA weekend series.

  • Northeastern broke through with a three-run fourth inning. Carmelo Musacchia walked and Harrison Feinberg singled to right center to put two on before Cooper Tarantino lined an RBI single through the right side to score Musacchia. AJ Aschettino followed with a two-run single to center, plating both Feinberg and Tarantino to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead.
  • Hofstra got on the board with a run in the fourth and another in the fifth to cut the deficit to 3-2, before a solo home run in the sixth tied the game at 3-3. An RBI single in the seventh gave the Pride a 4-3 lead.
  • The Huskies tied it in the eighth when Ryan Gerety singled up the middle and Matt Brinker doubled down the left field line to put runners at the corners. After a walk loaded the bases, Carter Bentley drew an RBI walk to bring home Brinker and even things at 4-4.
  • Hofstra won it in the bottom of the 11th on an infield single, a sacrifice bunt, and an RBI single to right field.
  • Robbie O'Connor worked six innings, allowing four runs on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Joseph Hauser and Andrew Basel each tossed a scoreless inning of relief in the middle frames. Matthew Sapienza (0-2) took the loss in 2.1 innings of work.
  • Brinker's eighth-inning double was one of just six Northeastern hits on the afternoon. The Huskies drew four walks and were hit by two pitches but stranded 13 runners on base and went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
  • It was just the second extra-inning game of the season for Northeastern, which is now 1-1 in extras after winning a 13-inning contest at Stony Brook on March 7th.

The series continues on Saturday, March 28th at 1 p.m. at University Field, with game two streaming on FloCollege.
