HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- The Northeastern Huskies (14-11, 8-3 CAA) evened the series with a wild 12-11 victory over the Hofstra Pride (7-14, 3-5 CAA) on Saturday afternoon at University Field, scoring four runs in the seventh inning to overcome a five-run Hofstra sixth. Carter Bentley collected two doubles and Harrison Feinberg reached base four times to pace the Northeastern offense, which pounded out nine hits, drew 11 walks, and was hit by five pitches in the back-and-forth affair. Cooper Maher (3-1) earned the win with 3.1 scoreless innings of relief after entering in the sixth with the bases loaded and the Huskies trailing.
- Northeastern struck first in the opening frame when Carmelo Musacchia walked, Ryan Gerety was hit by a pitch, and a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position. Feinberg doubled to center to plate them both for the early 2-0 lead.
- Hofstra answered with three in the bottom of the first on a two-run double and a sacrifice fly to take a 3-2 lead, then added two more in the second on an RBI groundout and an RBI double to push the advantage to 5-4 after the Huskies had tied it in the top of the second.
- The Huskies scored twice in the second without a ball leaving the infield. Chris Walsh walked and Carter Bentley was hit by a pitch before Will Fosberg bunted them up. A Musacchia hit-by-pitch forced in one run, and a Gerety bases-loaded walk brought home another to knot the game at 4-4.
- Northeastern retook the lead in the fourth when Gerety doubled to left center and a wild pitch moved him to third and Matt Brinker to second after he was hit by a pitch in the previous at-bat. Charlie Criscola delivered a two-run single through the right side to give the Huskies a 6-5 edge.
- Bentley doubled down the right field line in the fifth and scored on a Musacchia fielder's choice to push the lead to 7-6 after Hofstra had pulled within one on an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth.
- Hofstra erupted for five runs in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases on a hit-by-pitch, a walk, and another hit-by-pitch before stringing together an infield single, a sacrifice fly, an RBI walk, and a two-run single to take an 11-7 lead.
- The Huskies stormed back with a four-run seventh to tie it. Bentley doubled to right center and scored on a Fosberg RBI groundout. With two outs, Gerety walked and Feinberg singled to set the table, and Brinker ripped a two-run double down the left field line to plate them both. Cooper Tarantino followed with an RBI single to left to bring home Brinker and even the score at 11-11.
- Northeastern grabbed the lead for good in the eighth without recording a hit. With two outs, Fosberg walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch, Musacchia walked, and Gerety was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Feinberg drew an RBI walk to force in Fosberg and give the Huskies the 12-11 advantage.
- Maher shut the door from there, retiring Hofstra in order in the eighth and allowing just one walk in the ninth to close it out.
- Bentley finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, while Feinberg went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, two walks, and a stolen base. Criscola added a two-run single and a stolen base.
- The Huskies were 5-for-19 with runners in scoring position and drew 11 walks — the most by Northeastern in a nine-inning game this season. The team reached base five times on hit-by-pitches.
The series concludes on Sunday, March 29th at 12 p.m. at University Field, with game three streaming on FloCollege.
