HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Northeastern dropped the series finale to Hofstra, 11-10, on Sunday afternoon at University Field, as the Pride walked off in the bottom of the ninth to hand the Huskies their first CAA series loss since 2024.
The Huskies (14-12, 8-4 CAA) led by three runs entering the eighth inning but could not hold on, as Hofstra scored four in the eighth and four more in the ninth to claim the finale. Andrew Basel (0-1) took the loss after entering in the ninth. Matt Brinker was the offensive star of the afternoon, crushing a go-ahead grand slam in the sixth inning to cap a six-run frame that put Northeastern firmly in front. Brinker finished 2-for-4 with four RBI on the day. Harrison Feinberg delivered a 2-for-4 performance of his own, launching a solo home run in the eighth and adding a sacrifice fly in the ninth to finish with two RBI. Ryan Gerety reached base three times, while Chris Walsh went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI.
- Northeastern got on the board in the third inning, as Walsh led off with a double to deep center and scored on Gerety's RBI double to left field. Brinker followed with an infield single to put runners at second and third, and stole second to put the tying run in scoring position, but the Huskies could not extend the rally and trailed 3-1 heading to the fourth.
- The Huskies cut the deficit to 4-2 in the fifth on an Aschettino RBI single through the right side with the bases loaded, scoring Gerety from second. Brinker and Gerety had both worked walks to set the table, but a Tarantino groundout stranded the bases full and left Northeastern still chasing.
- Northeastern erupted for six runs in the sixth to flip the game on its head. Walsh's RBI double to left center got things started, scoring Bentley from second. After Gerety walked, Feinberg drew a walk to load the bases — and Brinker unloaded on a 0-0 pitch, sending a grand slam to deep left field to give the Huskies a 7-4 lead. Bentley capped the inning with an RBI single up the middle to push the advantage to 7-5 after Hofstra scored in their half.
- Feinberg extended the lead with a solo home run to deep left to open the eighth inning, his fifth of the season, making it 8-5. The Huskies added two more runs across the eighth and ninth innings — including a Musacchia sacrifice fly in the ninth — to push the lead to 10-7 entering the final frame.
- Northeastern plated one more in the ninth, as Musacchia reached third via a pair of wild pitches and scored on a Feinberg sacrifice fly, Feinberg's second RBI of the day and second key situational at-bat in as many half-innings.
- Ryan Griffin started and worked four innings, with Andrew Rogovic following for four more frames. Rogovic led the pitching staff with three strikeouts on the day.
- Musacchia (1-for-4) reached base multiple times and scored twice, while Aschettino went 3-for-6 with an RBI on the afternoon. Bentley contributed 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and Tarantino finished 2-for-5. The Huskies finished with 15 hits on the day, matching Hofstra's total, and stole four bases as a team.
- It's the first series loss to Hofstra in conference play since 2012.
Northeastern drops to 8-4 in CAA play with the loss and will look to regroup heading into four games at Friedman Diamond. The Huskies host UConn on Tuesday, March 31st before a weekend series with Monmouth starting on Thursday, April 2nd.
