Brinker, Harmony, Musacchia Go Deep In Huskies' 12-5 Series-Clinching Win

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Northeastern Huskies (22-16, 12-5 CAA) clinched the series with a 12-5 victory over North Carolina A&T (10-27, 3-14 CAA) on Saturday afternoon at World War Memorial Stadium. Luc Rising earned his second win of the season with six innings of work, while home runs from Matt Brinker, Carmelo Musacchia, and Tyler Harmony -- the first of Harmony's career -- powered an offense that scored in six of the first seven innings.

  • Brinker got the Huskies on the board in the first with a three-run homer to deep left field, his sixth of the season, with Tyler Harmony and Ryan Gerety both aboard on walks.
  • Northeastern extended the lead to 7-0 in the second with four more runs. Henry DiGiorgio walked and stole second, then Will Fosberg doubled to deep right to score him. Fosberg stole third and scored when Harmony hit a two-run shot to deep right field -- the first home run of his career -- to cap a big four-run frame.
  • Harrison Feinberg notched the seventh run on a single, a steal of second, and a pair of wild pitches to take third and home.
  • Musacchia kept the offense rolling in the third, connecting for a two-run homer with Aschettino aboard after singling and advancing to second on a failed pickoff and third on a steal.
  • With the bases loaded in thhe fourth, DiGiorgio drew an RBI walk to score Gerety, who reached on a double, and push the lead to 10-0. North Carolina A&T answered with a two-run homer in the bottom half to make it 10-2.
  • Northeastern answered back on an RBI double by Gerety in the fifth to make it 11-2.
  • After North Carolina A&T got one back on a double in the sixth, Carter Bentley singled through the left side to score DiGiorgio from second and restore the 10-run advantage at 12-2.
  • North Carolina A&T plated two more in the seventh on a pair of singles and a fielding error, but Cooper Maher entered and closed the door, holding the Aggies scoreless over 2.1 innings to finish it out.
  • Rising (2-4) earned the win, working six innings and allowing three runs -- two earned -- on five hits while walking none and striking out two on 68 pitches. He induced 10 ground ball outs on the afternoon.
  • Joseph Hauser bridged the gap with 0.2 innings before Maher came on and retired nine of the final 11 batters he faced, striking out two, to earn his second save of the season.
  • Harmony led the offense going 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored, and two RBI in his best offensive performance of the season. Gerety went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI.
  • Northeastern stole seven bases on the afternoon. The Huskies have now swiped 147 on the season, second in the nation, and clinched their fifth CAA series win of the year out of six played.

The series wraps up on Sunday, April 19th at 12 p.m. at World War Memorial Stadium, streaming on FloCollege.
