BROOKLINE, Mass. -- Hofstra (15-23, 9-12 CAA) tagged Northeastern's (25-17, 15-6 CAA) pitching staff for 11 runs in the fourth inning — nine of them unearned — as the Pride handed the Huskies a 13-2 series-finale defeat on Sunday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
- Northeastern drew first blood in the bottom of the first when Tyler Harmony singled to lead off the inning, advanced on a throwing error, and eventually scored on a fielder's choice RBI by Matt Brinker to give the Huskies an early 1-0 lead.
- The Huskies added a second run in the bottom of the second when Carmelo Musacchia singled up the middle, worked his way to third, and scored on a shallow left-field single by Henry DiGiorgio to make it 2-0.
- Hofstra blew the game open in the top of the fourth - what began as a manageable jam cascaded into an 11-run frame fueled mainly by three Northeastern errors and six Hofstra hits.
- Hofstra added single runs in the fifth and seventh innings off the bullpen to account for the final 13-2 score, ending the game via run-rule in the seventh.
- Ryan Griffin was charged with six runs — two earned — in 3.2 innings, taking his first loss of the season with a 6-1 record.
- Despite the loss, Northeastern won the weekend series two games to one over the Pride, avenging a series loss to Hofstra on the road earlier this season. Northeastern has won six of seven CAA series on the year, sitting tied for first place in the CAA North with Monmouth with a 15-6 record - Northeastern holds the tiebreaker over the Hawks due to its series win at Friedman earlier this year.
The Huskies will travel up to Portland, Maine this Wednesday for a game with the Maine Black Bears at Hadlock Field, before heading to Monmouth for a three-game CAA road series beginning Friday, May 1st at 3 p.m., with the winner of that series taking sole possession of first place in the CAA North with two weekends remaining.
