TOWSON, Md. -- The Towson Tigers (22-32, 9-21 CAA) used a six-run first inning and never looked back, defeating the Northeastern Huskies (34-19, 22-8 CAA) by a score of 14-10 on Saturday afternoon at Schuerholz Park in the series finale. Despite the loss, the Huskies took the series two games to one, winning nine of their 10 CAA series on the year.
Northeastern trailed 10-0 after two innings but battled back with 18 hits on the afternoon, highlighted by a monster performance from Chris Walsh, who belted three home runs -- in the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings -- driving in four runs in the contest.
- Towson jumped all over Northeastern early, scoring six runs in the first on a two-run homer, a pair of back-to-back solo home runs, and an unearned run. The Tigers added four more in the second on a grand slam to take a commanding 10-0 lead.
- The Huskies got on the board with a three-run third inning. Chris Walsh singled and Carmelo Musacchia singled to right center to put two runners on. After a wild pitch moved both into scoring position, Ryan Gerety ripped a two-RBI double down the right field line. Matt Brinker followed with an RBI double to left center to score Gerety and cut the deficit to 10-3.
- Northeastern continued to chip away in the fifth when Harrison Feinberg singled and Gerety launched a two-run homer to right field to make it 12-5.
- Walsh got the Huskies' power surge going in the sixth with a solo homer to left field. Feinberg then walked and stole second, and Gerety drove him in with another RBI double down the right field line for a 13-7 score.
- Towson tacked on a solo homer in the seventh to push the lead to 14-7.
- Walsh went deep again in the eighth, a solo shot to right field to make it 14-8.
- In the ninth, Henry DiGiorgio singled and Walsh capped his career day with a two-run homer to left field, his third of the game, to set the final at 14-10.
- Walsh finished 4-for-5 with four runs scored, three home runs, and five RBI. It was his first career multi-homer game and first career three-homer game.
- Gerety had a huge day at the plate as well, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, and five RBI. Musacchia added three hits and a run scored, while Brinker chipped in a double and an RBI.
- The Huskies swiped six stolen bases in the contest, with Musacchia (2), Feinberg, Gerety, Tarantino, and Carter Bentley each recording a steal.
- Andrew Wertz tossed a scoreless ninth inning in relief to close out the game for Northeastern.
- Despite the loss, the Huskies took the series two games to one, capping the CAA regular season at 22-8. Northeastern heads into the CAA Tournament as the tournament's No. 2 overall seed, getting a first-round bye in the CAA Tournament.
The Huskies will open the CAA Baseball Tournament at Brooks Field in Wilmington, N.C. next Thursday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. with the Huskies facing the top remaining seed in the winner's bracket after the first round.
