PENNSAUKEN, N.J.— The Northeastern women's rowing team made it 12 consecutive CAA Championships on Saturday morning, sweeping all four races at Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J. It marked the sixth sweep in program history as the Huskies accumulated 42 points across all three scoring races — setting new CAA records in all three scoring events in the process.
The program now boasts 15 CAA Championships all-time. Five Huskies were recognized with All-CAA honors: Isla Bathgate, Liv Oyen, Jorja Shemilt, Heather Taylor and Grace Theobald.
The Huskies wasted no time setting the tone. The third varsity eight, stroked by Piper Mullin, opened the day with a commanding win, crossing the finish line in 6:46.924 — more than 11 seconds ahead of the field.
The varsity four followed with the first scoring race victory of the day. Stroked by Katie Lawhon, the boat claimed first place with a time of 7:20.309.
The second varsity eight kept the momentum going, topping UConn by nine seconds to earn 14 points. Stroked by Evie Gaylord, the Huskies finished in 6:32.594.
The first varsity eight closed out the sweep in dominant fashion. Stroked by Ava Sjogren, the boat pulled away from the field by more than eight seconds, posting a time of 6:28.229 and banking 21 points to cap the day.
With the title secured, Northeastern has earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, set for May 29-31 in Gainesville, Georgia. The program now boasts 15 CAA Championships all-time.
