BOSTON -- Northeastern women's basketball head coach
Priscilla Edwards-Lloyd is excited to welcome Nick Alves to Huntington Ave. Alves joins the Huskies as an Assistant Coach.
"Incredibly excited to welcome Nick to our Husky family," said Edwards-Lloyd. "Nick is a Boston native through and through; his pride for the city runs deep. Nick also brings high-level experience, having coached in the ACC. Nick is a passionate coach with a knack for player development. Nick is a rising star in this industry. We are excited to have him with us!"
Prior to Northeastern, Alves spent two seasons with the Boston College women's basketball program, most recently serving as an assistant coach and director of operations. He initially joined the Eagles as a graduate assistant in 2023-24 before taking on a volunteer role the following season and ultimately earning an elevated position on staff.
Before entering the collegiate coaching ranks, Alves built an extensive résumé in the Boston area. He served as athletics director at both the Boston Center for Youth & Families and Boston Prep Charter School, and compiled winning records at three different programs during a six-year stint as a high school basketball coach. Alves also dedicated years to mentoring and training standout youth players across the city, helping prepare them for the next level.
In 2017, Alves launched Better Opportunity Basketball, a non-profit organization focused on helping inner-city youth navigate the college recruitment process. The program offers exposure through showcases and workouts, mentorship rooted in basketball and leadership development, and academic support including tutoring and SAT preparation.
Alves has also brought his coaching expertise overseas, running camps in Belgium, Austria, France, the Netherlands, and Cabo Verde. He has worked with a number of international players who have gone on to succeed in their respective professional leagues.
A Boston native, Alves played three years of varsity basketball at Milton Academy under head coach Lamar Reddicks. He went on to attend Boston College, graduating in 2015 with a double major in sociology and communication, and later earned a master's degree from Boston College.
