COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The Northeastern volleyball team dropped its season opener in a four-set match to UNC Greensboro, 3-1 (27-25, 24-26, 25-21, 25-18), at the Carolina Volleyball Center.
The Huskies won set one, 27-25, but UNC Greensboro rallied to take the final three. For the match, Emma Rowell led Northeastern with 16 kills and Cayenne Ceman added 14. Beatrice Gennari was efficient in a smaller workload, hitting .692 for nine kills, while Valentina Meirelles also finished with nine kills. Setters Arina Sosinovica (26 assists) and Sofia King (23 assists) split time running the offense.
UNC Greensboro was paced by Allie Sweet, who finished with 24 kills and nine digs, and Kendall Lanclos, who hit .516 for 16 kills. The match was tightly contested throughout, with 33 tie scores and 18 lead changes over the four sets.
UNCG finished with a 67-59 edge in team kills and hit .377 to Northeastern's .292.
The Huskies close out the Gamecock Classic against host South Carolina tomorrow at 1 p.m. The match will be live streamed on SEC Network.
