DEDHAM, Mass. — Alex Mega and Camille Armaganian scored three minutes apart in the third quarter to give the Northeastern field hockey team a 2-1 lead over No. 9 Syracuse, but the Orange (2-0) answered with two goals in the final five minutes of the period and held on for a 3-2 win in Northeastern's (0-2) home opener Sunday afternoon at Dedham Field.
- Syracuse struck first in the opening quarter on a goal from Taylor Bigbie, assisted by Ally Snyder.
- Northeastern tied it in the third quarter when Alex Mega scored off a Maggie Lundy assist at 33:36, and the Huskies took the lead less than three minutes later on a penalty stroke goal from Camille Armaganian.
- Syracuse answered right back, scoring twice in a five-minute span late in the third quarter — Hattie Madden (assisted by Aubrey Turner) and Jovie Weaver (assisted by Madden) — to retake the lead for good, 3-2.
- Neither team found the net in the fourth quarter as Syracuse closed out the win.
- Freshman goalie Aiko Price made her first career start, stopping five of the six Syracuse shots on target in three quarters played.
Northeastern is back in action Friday, Sept. 4, at 6 p.m., traveling to Worcester, Mass., to face Holy Cross.
