DEDHAM, Mass. — Clara Ojea Quintana scored her first collegiate goal to tie the game in the third quarter, but Stanford (6-0) pulled away with three unanswered goals in the fourth to hand Northeastern (1-4) a 4-1 loss in rainy conditions Sunday morning at Dedham Field.
- Stanford opened the scoring in the second quarter on a goal from Summer Knight-Thompson, assisted by Caroline Richard, to lead 1-0.
- Ojea Quintana tied it in the third quarter off a penalty corner, scoring her first goal as a Husky after a defensive save by Stanford.
- The game stayed level into the fourth quarter before Stanford broke through with three goals in the final 10 minutes — from Star Horlock, Ella Ganocy and Natalie Hoppe — to pull away for the 4-1 final.
- Ibby Welldon made three saves in the first half, and Aiko Price made four more in the second, as both goalkeepers weathered a heavy Stanford push in difficult, rain-soaked conditions.
Northeastern opens CAA play Friday, Sept. 18, at 3 p.m., traveling to Hempstead, N.Y., to face Hofstra, before a tough back-to-back continues Sunday, Sept. 20, at 1 p.m., against Harvard — ranked No. 4 in the preseason national coaches poll — in Cambridge, Mass.
