BOSTON -- The Northeastern volleyball team hits the road for its Coastal Athletic Association opener this weekend, taking on the Towson Tigers on Friday, Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 19 at 12 p.m. Both matches will be played at SECU Arena in Towson, Md., and will stream on FloCollege.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- LAST TIME OUT – Northeastern split its final tune-up of the non-conference slate at the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament, hosted by Colgate. The Huskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the host Raiders before Colgate rallied to complete the reverse sweep, 3-2. Northeastern bounced back the following day, riding an early 2-0 lead to a 3-1 win over Dartmouth (25-21, 25-16, 12-25, 25-15), before closing the weekend in a fifth-set thriller against UAlbany, falling 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-11). Sophomore Emma Rowell has continued to anchor the Husky attack throughout the non-conference slate, adding 54 kills this weekend to her staggering season total of 124 through just eight matches played. Her kills total (averaging 3.65 per game) is second in the conference entering the first weekend of CAA games.
- SCOUTING TOWSON – The Tigers are no stranger to the top of the CAA. Towson finished the 2025 season 21-6 overall and 12-4 in league play, good for a share of third place, and made its seventh straight trip to the CAA Championship semifinals under longtime head coach Don Metil, the program's all-time wins leader. Towson enters this weekend at 7-3 after going 1-2 at the Mizzou Invitational to open the year and 6-1 at its own Tiger Invitational, with the only loss coming to Arkansas.
- CAA NOTES – Northeastern enters its second season under head coach Brendan McGourn with two players carrying preseason honors into conference play: Rowell was named to the Preseason All-CAA Team, while senior captain Beatrice Gennari earned Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention recognition after leading the team in blocks a year ago. The Huskies will look to that veteran duo as they aim to climb the standings in the newly opened conference slate.
