TOWSON, Md.— Northeastern volleyball dropped its Coastal Athletic Association opener Friday afternoon at SECU Arena, falling to Towson in three sets, 25-13, 28-26, 25-19.
The Tigers set the tone early, cruising through the first set behind a red-hot .333 hitting clip. Northeastern regrouped in the second, trading points down the stretch before Towson closed it out 28-26 on a late run. The Huskies had chances to extend the match in the third but couldn't sustain the pressure, as Towson pulled away in the closing points to complete the sweep.
Valentina Meirelles and
Brynn Smith shared the offensive load for Northeastern, with Meirelles finished with a match-high eight kills. Setter
Arina Sosinovica ran the offense with a team-high 18 assists, while libero
Iris Canko and Rowell each turned in seven digs to pace the Huskies defensively.
The Huskies and Tigers will close out the two-game series on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 12 p.m.
