Dartmouth scored two quick goals and rolled to a 5-0 win over Northeastern in a non-conference game at Singer Park in Manchester, N.H. on Monday night. The Big Green proved why they are considered one of the Northeast's top teams, controlling play in both halves.
Mary McVeigh was the primary catalyst for the Big Green, earning assists on the first two goals of game by teammates Devon Haskell and Katherine Kannenberg. Dartmouth had built a 2-0 lead after just 10 minutes of play. NU kept the Big Green off the board the rest of the half and trailed 2-0 at intermission.
McVeigh got things going again in the second half, scoring unassisted just four minutes after the break to give Dartmouth a commanding 3-0 edge.
Cynthia Slowik started in net for NU and played 75 minutes, allowing five goals, before giving way to Jeannette Tremblay.
"They are one of the best teams in the region and the nation," said NU head coach Ed Matz. "Having said that, I think our forwards held their own. Our defense has a lot of inexperience and the good teams always find ways to expose that and take advantage."
The Huskies return to America East play on Thursday to meet crosstown rival Boston University at Nickerson Field.
