Northeastern 1, Stony Brook 1

Jen Fontanetta scored in the 68th minute to help Stony Brook earn a 1-1 tie in America East women's soccer action Sunday afternoon. With the tie, each team gains a point in the conference standings.

Even though the host Seawolves outshot the Huskies 12-4 in the first half, it was NU's Jen North who provided a 1-0 lead at the 40:27 mark. North ran down a through pass from Liz Dyjak and slipped a left-footed shot past Stony Brook's Lauren Kohn for the first goal of the game.

The Seawolves continued their assault on the NU goal and found the net at 67:31. Danielle Lewis sent a cross from the far corner into the goal mouth that Fontanetta headed past Cynthia Slowik to knot the game at one. Fontanetta had a chance to win it in regulation on a breakaway but Slowik came up with a big save to preserve the tie.

NU had the best chance of either team in overtime when Andi Matthews directed a corner kick past Stony Brook keeper Lauren Kohn, but a Seawolves defender cleared the ball just inches before the goal.

"This was a very good match between two conference teams," NU head coach Ed Matz said. "I thought they controlled the first half, but I was pleased that we came out and controlled the second half. Jen North had a 25 to 30-yard run after a nice pass from Liz [Dyjak] to get us even. Then we came up just short of winning it in overtime."

Slowik made nine saves for the Huskies (4-2-3, 0-0-1) to extend their unbeaten streak to five. Kohn made five saves for the Seawolves (2-6-2, 0-0-1). Northeastern will next be at Sacred Heart on Tuesday, starting at 4 p.m.
