Sophomore Jay Quinn scored in the first half and junior Liane Dixon in the second to lead the 12th-ranked Northeastern to a 2-0 victory over host Vermont in America East action Saturday afternoon at Archie Post Field.
Quinn's goal gave Northeastern a 1-0 lead with 9:45 remaining in a first half dominated by the Huskies. Northeastern outshot the Catamounts 11-1 over the first 35 minutes and had 10 penalty corners to Vermont's zero.
Dixon then gave Northeastern an insurance goal off of a penalty corner with 14:33 left in the game. Mari Creatini, the nation's top scorer, picked up an assist on both of Northeastern's two goals.
Northeastern (11-4, 2-0) finished the game with an 18-2 advantage in shots and 21-4 in penalty corners. In her first game in the Catamount crease, freshman Erin Hickey had seven saves in goal for Vermont (1-12, 0-1). At the other end, junior Diana Nelson made one stop in recording the shutout for the Huskies.
