Junior Mari Creatini scored on a penalty stroke with 3:56 remaining to lift the 10th-ranked Huskies to their third straight America East regular-season title with a 1-0 victory over host New Hampshire at Memorial Field Saturday afternoon.
Northeastern finished the regular season with a 15-5 overall record and 6-0 mark in conference action. The Wildcats fell to 10-10 and 5-1. With the victory the Huskies also shored up home-field advantage for the America East postseason tournament, which starts Friday.
With Creatini breaking in at the top of the circle, UNH goalie Christine Buckley charged and stacked her leg pads to knock the ball away. NU was awarded a penalty stroke and the nation's leading scorer fired a low shot inside the right post to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
Junior Diana Nelson stopped five shots for her eighth shutout of the season, while Buckley made four saves.
The Huskies held a 12-7 shot advantage and 14-4 edge in penalty corners.
