Northeastern tied the all-time record for goals in a game, exploding for 10 scores as the 13th-ranked Huskies blanked Massachusetts, 10-0, in non-conference action at Sweeney Field.
Junior Mari Creatini tallied her third hat trick of the season and assisted on another goal to pave the way for the Husky offense. Junior Liane Dixon also notched a hat trick, while redshirt freshman Natalie Singelais scored twice for the second straight game. Senior Sara Webber assisted on three goals.
Creatini leads the nation in scoring with 18 goals and seven assists for 43 points. She is tied for eighth on the NU career goals list (37) and is ninth on the career points list (92).
NU hadn't scored 10 goals in a game since the fall of 1988, when they defeated Yale 10-0. The last Husky shutout of the Minutemen was a 3-0 victory in 1997. NU has taken the last four meetings.
The Huskies wasted little time lighting up the scoreboard and lighting it up often. Singelais opened the floodgates 5:58 into the contest. Creatini added a goal off a corner play at 8:41. Jay Quinn fired in a goal from 10 yards out at 10:08. Dixon scored off a corner play at 13:44. Singelais knocked home her second goal of the game at 18:01. Dixon tipped in a pass from Webber for her second goal at 27:03. And, finally, Leigh Shea tapped in a loose ball in front of the goal at 28:05 to end the first half scoring.
The second half started much like the first. Dixon entered the circle untouched and raced toward the net, beating UMass keeper Christine Tocco (15 saves) for an 8-0 lead. Creatini rounded out the scoring with the final two goals of the game.
The Huskies dominated the entire game, outshooting the Minutemen, 30-0, and holding a 15-1 penalty corner advangtage.
