Northeastern Huskies

Field Hockey

Northeastern 5, Drexel 3

The Northeastern field hockey team won its 12th game in a row with a 5-3 victory over Drexel on Friday in rain-soaked Philadelphia. Whitney Shean and Natalie Singelais each recorded a goal and two assists as the Huskies ran their record to 13-1 on the season and maintained an undefeated 4-0 record in Colonial Athletic Association play.

The Dragons took the early lead, capitalizing on a penalty corner in the 9th minute when Cassie Prentiss scored on a rebound. The Huskies tied it up in the 20th minute when Jay Quinn found the back of the net, then took the lead in the 32nd minute when Shean scored her league-leading 13th goal of the season. That lead would only last 17 seconds, though, as Drexel immediately tied things at two goals each when Emily Horvat set up Casey Mouser for the equalizer.

The game remained tied at halftime, but the Huskies quickly jumped back into the lead in the second half. Singelais scored unassisted in the 36th minute to give NU the 3-2 lead. The Huskies were able to convert on two more penalty corners in the game. Shean and Singelais set up Stephanie Casper in the 41st minute for the eventual game-winner that put the Huskies up 4-2 at the time. The goal was just the third of Casper's career, but her second game-winner in the last three games. The Dragons tried to mount a comeback in the 47th minute as Danielle Keilholz scored on a pass from Sarah Gostomski, but less than two minutes later, another NU penalty corner gave them all the insurance they would need when Lauren Edelmeier scored her seventh goal of the season.

Husky goalkeeper Colleen Duffy made four saves while allowing three goals, while her Dragon counterpart and fellow freshman Colleen McAndrew made seven saves while allowing five goals. All three goal scorers for Drexel tallied their first collegiate goal in the contest.

The No. 11 Huskies are on their longest winning streak since 1997. The team now returns to Sweeney Field to begin a slate of three straight games against nationally-ranked teams. First up is the Battle of the Huskies as No. 15 Connecticut faces off with NU on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
