BOSTON -- Northeastern field hockey (5-6, 3-0 CAA) takes its three-game winning streak on the road Friday, Oct. 16, for a 3 p.m. CAA matchup at Fairfield (8-5, 3-1 CAA) before returning to Dedham Field on Sunday, Oct. 18, to host Maine (6-6, 1-1 AE) at noon for Senior Day. Friday's game will stream on Fairfield's Youtube channel, while Sunday's home game will air on FloCollege.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
1. LAST TIME OUT – Northeastern put together a perfect 2-0 weekend at Dedham Field, opening with a 2-1 CAA win over Towson before shutting out Stonehill, 4-0. Against the Tigers, Alex Mega opened the scoring just 2:53 into the game, and Clara Ojea Quintana doubled the lead at 10:48 off an assist from Addison Polakoff. Towson pulled within one in the third quarter, but the Huskies held on to remain unbeaten in conference play. Aiko Price made two saves, while Phoebe Hall came up with a defensive save on a penalty corner to help preserve the victory. The Huskies carried that momentum into Sunday's win over Stonehill, scoring four unanswered goals while limiting the Skyhawks to just two shots and none on goal. Amelia Albers opened the scoring just 1:19 into the game, followed by Hall's penalty-corner goal, assisted by Alex Mega and Albers. Ojea Quintana added her second goal of the weekend off an assist from Maddie Funk, and Julia Puccio capped the scoring with an unassisted goal in the fourth quarter. Price and Ibby Welldon split the shutout, each playing one half. Ojea Quintana was named CAA Rookie of the Week after scoring in both victories. Her goal against Towson proved to be the game-winner, while her finish against Stonehill gave the Huskies a 3-0 lead. The freshman now has three goals this season, tied for second on the team. Northeastern's 3-0 start in CAA play is its best since 2014.
2. SCOUTING THE STAGS – Fairfield enters Friday's matchup at 8-5 overall and 3-1 in CAA play, sitting third in the conference standings behind Monmouth and Northeastern. The Stags have won four straight games, including a 5-0 victory over William & Mary and a 2-0 win at VCU last weekend. Fairfield has been productive offensively, scoring 42 goals through 13 games while allowing just 16. Kylie Corcoran leads the Stags with nine goals and 22 points, while Rylee LaLoup has added eight goals. Alice Pifferi leads the team with nine assists. Fairfield will look to extend its winning streak against a Northeastern team that remains unbeaten in CAA play.
3. SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS – Maine enters Sunday's non-conference matchup at 6-6 overall and 1-1 in America East play. The Black Bears have continued to face a challenging schedule, including matchups against nationally ranked Liberty and UMass to open the season. Maine most recently earned a 3-0 win over Merrimack on Oct. 11 after falling 3-4 in overtime to UMass two days earlier. The Black Bears have also recorded wins over UAlbany and other non-conference opponents, and will visit Northeastern looking to build momentum ahead of the final stretch of America East play.
