The Northeastern baseball team fell behind 9-1 against Dallas Baptist Thursday evening, cut the lead to 9-7 and then allowed 10 runs in the eighth inning, falling to the Patriots, 19-8, at Patriot Field in Dallas.
Junior Chris Emanuele, who went 4-5 on the night, led off the game with a homer, his second leadoff shot of the season, but the Patriots roared back with nine runs of off sophomore Adam Ottavino (0-3), who surrendered nine runs, including four homers, on nine hits and six walks. He struck out six on the night.
Down 9-2, NU (4-6) rallied with five runs in the seventh inning when seniors Jeff Heriot (three-run shot) and Tim Bush (solo shot) hit back-to-back homers.
However, Dallas Baptist (13-10) answered back with its 10-run inning off of senior Jim Madison. All 10 runs were unearned.
NU scored its last run in the top of ninth when senior Miguel Paquette brought in junior Arman Sidhu on an RBI groundout.
Patriots starter Stuart Sutherland (2-2) pitched seven innings and gave up seven runs, four earned, for the win. Dallas Baptist committed five errors in the game, but still came out on top.
The Huskies will try to break their three-game losing streak tomorrow when they take on Prairie View A&M at 2 p.m. and Dallas Baptist at 5 p.m.
