For the second game in a row, the Northeastern baseball team fell behind big, staged a seventh-inning rally and then fell apart, losing to Prairie View A&M, 19-11, Friday afternoon at Patriot Field in Dallas.
NU (4-7) entered the bottom of the seventh down 9-3 when the team bursted for eight runs. Freshman Mike Lyon hit a two-run single to cut the Panthers' lead to 9-5. Junior Chris Emanuele, who extended his hitting streak to 11 games, hit a sacrifice fly that scored two runs to make it 9-7. Senior Tim Bush, with two runners on, homered to give NU an 11-9 lead.
However, the Huskies could not hold it. The Panthers scored three times in the eighth off of freshman Mitch Duggins, and then torched senior Jim Madison (1-1) for seven runs in the ninth. Prairie View A&M (17-14) got 21 hits on the day, but recorded four errors. Panthers reliever Matthew Chase (5-1) picked up the win with 2-2/3 innings of work, allowing three unearned runs.
NU freshman starter Kris Dabrowiecki was hit hard, giving up 12 hits and nine runs in seven innings of work. He walked two and struck out five.
NU will send sophomore Dave Pellegrine to the mound, attempting to break a four-game skid when it plays Dallas Baptist at 5:45 p.m.
