Sophmore starting pitcher Adam Ottavino turned in his second straight quality start, allowing just four hits and two runs while striking out nine hitters as the Northeastern baseball team defeated Hartford, 8-2, Friday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
Ottavino (1-4) threw eight innings on the day. He was a little wild - he walked two hitters and hit three others - but overall he dominated the Hawks, producing 12 groundball outs in addition to his nine punchouts.
The Huskies (6-11) offense also broke out of a mini slump by scoring eight runs on nine hits. NU jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first when senior Miguel Paquette doubled down the right field line off of Hawks (0-7) starter Pete Moraski (0-2) to score junior Arman Sidhu.
NU tacked on three runs in the fourth, largely in part to sophomore Dan Milano's two-run single that scored Paquette, who again doubled down the right field line, and junior Jeff Maher, who drew three walks on the day.
In the sixth up 4-1, Northeastern put the game out of reach with three more runs, capped by senior Tim Bush's RBI double down the left field line, making the score 7-1 in favor of the Huskies.
Paquette finished the day 3-5 with three doubles while Milano went 2-4 with two RBI, raising his team-leading total to 12.
Senior Jim Madison pitched a scoreless ninth inning to end the game.
NU will host Maine in a non-conference game tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. at Friedman Diamond. Freshman Kris Dabrowiecki is scheduled to take the mound for the Huskies.
