Senior Jeff Heriot hit a tie-breaking solo home run in the eighth inning to lead Northeastern to an 11-10 victory over Albany Sunday afternoon at Varsity Field in Albany, N.Y.
The Huskies (12-15, 5-1 America East) and Great Danes (9-11, 2-4 America East) engaged in an offensive war as the two teams combined for 21 runs on 28 hits.
NU jumped out to a 7-0 lead after scoring six runs in the fourth. Junior Jeff Maher hit a two-RBI double, junior Chris Emanuele hit a 2-RBI triple and junior Arman Sidhu smacked an RBI double in the big inning.
Albany stormed back against Huskies starter Dave Pellegrine, picking up three runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and four in the sixth. When the sixth was over, the Great Danes led 10-9.
The Huskies did not quit as junior Matt Morizio homered in the seventh to tie the game at 10-10. Then, Heriot took Roman Dubiel (1-1) deep to give NU the lead at 11-10.
Freshman Kris Dabrowiecki (4-1) pitched the final four innings for NU, allowing just one run, giving the Huskies the opportunity to come back to win the game.
Northeastern will play Boston College in the first round of the Beanpot Tournament Wednesday, April 20 at 5 p.m. at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass.
