Junior outfielder Chris Emanuele went 3-3 with a homer, triple, double and four runs scored as the Northeastern baseball team clobbered Hartford, 14-4, in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
Emanuele reached base in each of his five plate appearances, getting hit by a pitch in the first and second innings, hitting a two-run home run in the fourth, doubling down the left field line in the fifth and tripling to left center in the seventh.
Each starter in the lineup for NU (7-14, 1-0 America East) got a hit and eight out of the nine starters scored at least one run as the Huskies piled up a season-high 14 runs.
The Huskies began the scoring in the second with five runs. NU got on the board when, with the bases loaded, Hartford (2-8, 0-1 America East) third baseman Adam Bowser fielded a ball hit by freshman Josh Porter and threw it high over catcher Ryan Crowley's head, allowing senior Tim Bush to cross the plate.
Junior Brian Nutting followed with a sacrifice fly and two batters later, junior Arman Sidhu slapped a single to left, allowing two runs to cross the plate. Senior Jeff Heriot then followed with a fielder's choice, allowing Emanuele to score and give NU a 5-0 lead through two innings.
Northeastern chased Hawks starter Tony Cekovsky (0-3) in the fourth when Emanuele homered with Nutting on first base and junior Matt Morizio singled home senior Miguel Paquette, giving NU a 9-0 lead.
Cekovsky did not make it out of the fourth inning, allowing nine runs on nine hits.
In the fifth, NU added three more runs after Emanuele doubled home Nutting and scored on Heriot's two-run homer. The team capped the scoring in the seventh as freshman John Ursone, running for Porter, scored on Emanuele's triple and Sidhu hit an RBI single.
Sophomore Adam Ottavino (2-4) started for NU and cruised through the first four innings, before allowing two runs in the fifth and two runs in the seventh. He finished the day throwing seven innings, allowing four runs on six hits; he walked six and struck out eight.
Sophomore Tristan Besse closed out the game with two scoreless innings.
NU and Hartford will meet in game two of the doubleheader at approximately 3 p.m. Northeastern will send sophomore Dave Pellegrine to the mound.
