Northeastern continued its dominance over UMBC, taking game one of a doubleheader, 6-1, as senior Devin Monds threw a complete game three-hitter.
The Huskies (16-18, 8-3 America East) jumped on Retrievers (10-26, 2-9 America East) starter Jon Pavlis (2-4) in the first inning for three runs. Juniors Chris Emanuele and Arman Sidhu hit a single and a double, respectively, to lead off the game. Senior Jeff Heriot hit a sacrifice fly to score Emanuele, senior Tim Bush doubled home Sidhu and junior Matt Morizio doubled home Bush to give NU a 3-0 lead.
Bush would homer in the third inning while freshman Mike Lyon homered in the fourth.
Monds (2-4) scattered three hits in seven innings, walking three and striking out four. He earned his first win since Feb. 28, when he shut out Seton Hall over eight innings in a 5-0 Huskies victory.
The Husky bats were alive today as six members of the starting lineup had multi-hit games, led by Emanuele, who had three hits, increasing his season-high hitting streak to 16 games.
The Huskies will look to complete the sweep in game two.
