The Northeastern baseball team scored two runs in the 10th inning to break a 2-2 tie and defeat Stony Brook, 4-2, in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at University Field in Stony Brook, N.Y.
The Huskies (25-20, 14-5 America East) have now clinched the regular season conference title with one game remaining.
In the 10th inning, senior Jeff Heriot led off the inning with a double and later scored on a fielder's choice hit by sophomore Dan Milano. Senior Miguel Paquette, who had gotten an infield hit earlier, scored on junior Brian Nutting's RBI single.
The two runs made junior Matt Morizio (1-0) a winner after he tossed an inning in relief of starter Devin Monds, who went eight innings and yielded just two runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out six.
Senior Tim Bush closed out the game in the 10th and earned his fifth save of the year.
Kris Bakey (3-5), who went six and two-thirds innings in relief of starter Brian Murtagh, took the loss for the Seawolves (22-28, 9-11 America East).
The Huskies and Seawolves will wrap up the regular season in the second game of today's doubleheader.
