In the NU field hockey team's attempt to get back over .500 for the first time since the opening game of the 2006 season, the team had little shot - or shots. On Friday afternoon, Northeastern dropped a very frustrating 1-0 game to cross-town rival Boston University at MIT's Jack Barry Field. The shutout marks the first time the team has been blanked since last year's CAA Championship game against Old Dominion.
The Huskies had a very rough afternoon attempting to penetrate the tough Terrier defense. The team did not record its first shot of the game until the 47:55 mark, when freshman midfielder Montana Hewlett's shot was saved by BU goaltender Erin Predeger. Unfortunately for the Huskies, Predeger let neither Hewlett's attempt or the team's only other shot, off the stick of junior Harriet Hoyer, get by her.
With the defense playing solidly, the Terriers did not need much offense in order to escape with a victory. BU's Sarah Shute scored her fifth goal of the season in the 27th minute after a scramble in front of NU junior goaltender Liz Centofanti. BU managed only two shots for the remainder of the contest, but only needed Shute's goal in order to record the victory.
Predeger upped her record to 4-4 on the season with the victory, after only being called upon to make two saves. Centofanti, making her second consecutive start, was the hard-luck loser for Northeastern, making three saves in the loss. Her record drops to 1-1 on the season.
Northeastern, currently sporting an uncharacteristic 3-4 record, will have little time in order to bounce back from the loss, as the team begins its CAA schedule on Sunday when it travels to Towson to take on the Tigers.
