The Huskies overcame a 2-1 halftime deficit to overtake the Towson Tigers 3-2 in the CAA Quarterfinal on Thursday. Junior Ashley Bacetta scored twice and added an assist, while freshman Emma Boggio scored the game-winning goal for the Huskies in the second half.
Northeastern got on the board first after taking advantage of its second penalty corner. Bascetta put a hard shot past Towson goalie Michelle Cheek to tally the Huskies' first goal of the game, her fifth of the season. Sophomore Suzanne Hazelzet and senior Ashley D'Ambra assisted on the play.
Towson responded with five minutes left in the half. Christina Boarman scored her league-leading 14th goal to tie the game at one apiece off a penalty corner from Laura Schnell. The Tigers would score once more before the end of the half when Angie Brewer beat Northeastern goalie Liz Centofanti to put the Tigers up 2-1 at the end of the half.
In the second half, the Huskies had an answer for Towson's first-half rally. In the 52nd minute the Huskies were awarded a penalty corner and the team took the same approach that made them successful in the first half. Again Bascetta took the shot and found net with help from Hazelzet and D'Ambra to tie the game at 2. Six minutes later, during a offensive push, Bacetta made a great pass from the right side of the circle to Boggio who was able to put it away to give Northeastern a 3-2 lead it would not relinquish. Boggio now has three career goals, all of which have been game-winners.
With the win, the Huskies advance to the CAA Semifinals to face Old Dominion on Saturday at 12 p.m.
