Huskies fall to Delaware, 5-2

The Northeastern University baseball team held Delaware scoreless after the first inning, but the five runs that the Fightin' Blue Hens plated in the opening frame would be enough to hold off the Huskies, who took a 5-2 loss at Bob Hannah Stadium in Newark, Del. on Friday afternoon.
Senior captain Kris Dabrowiecki started the game for the Huskies and dropped to 0-2 on the season. After allowing five runs on four hits in the first inning, Dabrowiecki settled in nicely, allowing no runs and just five hits in his final five innings of work, while finishing with seven strikeouts. Junior Dan Zehr tossed two scoreless innings of relief to finish the game, lowering his ERA to a dainty 2.08 in 13 innings of work.
The Huskies got on the board in the second after senior captain Mike Lyon led off with a double down the left field line and came around to score on a fielder's choice by fellow captain Josh Porter. The only other Husky run came in the fifth inning when Mike Tamsin scored Ryan Maguire from third with a single up the middle.
Leadoff man Tony DiCesare was the only Husky to finish the game with multiple hits, while Lyon's double was the lone extra-base hit for Northeastern. For the most part, Delaware starter Mike Maguire was able to silence the Husky bats.
Northeastern drops to 6-5 on the season and 0-1 in the CAA, while Delaware improves to 4-11 on the season and 1-3 in the conference. The teams will play another game tomorrow at 2 p.m. Junior Jeff Thomson will be on the mound for the Huskies and Brian Rorick will pitch for the Fighting' Blue Hens.
