Huskies outslugged by Western Michigan, lose 16-14

In an explosive offensive game that featured seven total home runs and 14 extra base hits combined between the two teams, the Northeastern University baseball team came out on the wrong end, falling to the Western Michigan Broncos 16-14 on Sunday evening at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla. It was the Huskies second game of the day, as they defeated Bowling Green 11-8 earlier in the afternoon.
Mike Lyon added to his torrid start as he hit another home run to give him a total of three in the team's first four games of the season. Junior catcher Frank Pesanello cranked to towering, tape measure blasts to center field, finishing the game 3-4 with the two homers, a double, four RBI and three runs scored. Josh Porter, Ryan Maguire, Teddy Zentek and Dave Fisher also doubled in the game, but it was not enough as the Broncos outdid them with four home runs and 15 hits overall in the contest.
Ryan Quigley started the game for the Huskies and struggled, allowing 10 runs in 3-1/3 innings. The Broncos scored in each of the first seven innings of the game until Aaron Greenblatt and Sheldon McDonald were able to quiet them in the final two innings as the Huskies were trying to stage a comeback.
Northeastern finished the day with its second straight split and fell to 2-2 on the season, while Western Michigan improved to 5-1 with the win. The Huskies will be back in action tomorrow at 11 a.m. when they take on the Bowling Green Falcons for the second straight day. The game was originally scheduled for 1 p.m. Junior Dan Zehr will start on the mound for Northeastern.
