The Northeastern University baseball team dropped a 5-4 decision to George Mason at Spuhler Field in Fairfax, Va. on Saturday afternoon, evening the series at 1-1.
Sophomore right fielder Tony DiCesare led the offensive attack for the Huskies, as he drove in the team's first run with an RBI-single in the bottom of the fourth and then gave the Huskies a 4-2 lead with a two-run homer in the sixth, his first long ball of the year. Junior Mike Tamsin, senior captain Josh Porter and junior James Donaldson each added two hits in the game for the Huskies.
Junior Jeff Thomson started for the Huskies, tossing the first 7-2/3 innings. He earned a no-decision after allowing four runs on four hits, a walk and striking out five over that span. Sophomore Sheldon McDonald took the loss in relief before junior Dan Zehr came in and retired all four batters that he faced.
Northeastern dropped to 8-7 overall with the loss and 2-3 in the CAA. George Mason improved to 8-11 overall and 5-2 in the conference. Sophomore Ryan Quigley will get the start in Sunday's rubber game. First pitch at Spuhler Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
